EDITOR’S NOTE

Belgian menswear designer Jan-Jan van Essche started his fashion career after graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 2010, Jan Jan launched his eponymous label and presented his debut collection titled “Yukkuri”. A collection inspired by the Malinese culture, music and lifestyle. Floating volumes, light weight fabrics are used in combination with braiding and weaving techniques, creating an at ease comfortable feeling. In the designer’s own words, he follows the theme of “Openness in Design” - drawing inspirations from diverse cultures, rejecting the traditional tailoring, and celebrating individual’s body shapes with genderless garments composed of natural shades, minimal seams and loose silhouettes.
